ARECA is a nonprofit that supports a network of applied research and extension associations to connect producers to programs, services, innovations, and research to improve the profitability and sustainability of their farm business.
The previous developer of their central web application had been less responsive to change requests, and limitations had been expressed around their ability to keep it functional and up to date.
Vertical Motion entered the picture with a detailed application health assessment, reporting in plainspoken language about the structural challenges in their tech stack, and the extent of the technical debt that had been hampering their ability to update the application year over year.
To ensure long term success, ARECA was facing a rebuild of their system. Vertical Motion began to fully restructure the central web application on a new and robust tech stack that could more effectively meet their needs, and the needs of the membership community they serve.
Solution
Vertical Motion took on the project with agile project management principles, analysis of current progress and requirements, and initiation of Q&A and automated software testing routines.
The application was both re-thought and re-built as custom software, as opposed to the modified off-the-shelf software it was previously. Its robust MySQL back-end and Laravel/React front-end will allow sensible and friendly user interface updates that were previously written off as impossible.
